Salzburg @ Austria - home to the happy people…!!!

The annual summits are barely about the activities relating to the company affairs. Invitation list include suppliers, vendors, customers and practically any trade partners valuable for the company. It not only includes information sharing & corporate presentations; but also includes a three course meals, three times a day and lots of extra-curricular activities for amusements.

One such event was the purpose of my travel to Salzburg in Austria and Munich in Germany early last year. Salzburg's internationally renowned baroque architecture and one of the best-preserved city centres north of the Alps. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Host to three universities and a large population of students, Salzburg is noted for its attractive setting and scenic Alpine backdrop.

The Salzburg Mountain Advent is a one-of-a-kind experience. And that is one of the reasons why the summit was held in Salzburg, so that everyone can experience something innovative/fresh, ice-skating!!! Most of the people in Europe naturally tend to go-away for weeks doing Ice-Skating in mountains. It was perfect opportunity for amateurs like us; may as well to make a start with this wonderful experience, some point in time in our life-time. No matter if we ice-skate or we just participate in one of the many advent activities and attractions– we won’t be disappointed for sure in Salzburg.

Austrians are very friendly and willing to start a conversation, so with a little effort, we might find ourselves sitting at a table with a bunch of Austrians or travellers! A great place for an evening out with a difference. What a wonderful place to eat and to drink! It was novel to wash our own mug and then pay and collect our beer. Then to wander around the various food establishments and choose our food of choice and the size of meat in our case that you wished to eat.

Although all our meals for those few days; were scripted at the five star hotel we were living in – but we took every opportunity to get out and experience the beautiful country town…I didn’t drink alcohol those days but walking down from the pubs down to our hotel with friends/colleagues, at 3AM in the morning, was worth an experience…it felt as if…life is good…everything is being executed everywhere as it should be and some people here are celebrating here, an usual end of the today and beginning of tomorrow, with their regular music, beer, singing, dancing, laughing, eating and just gathering everywhere…Felt as if these people find worth in everything…reason in everything…what a peaceful life!!!

Since 2007, I remembered Austria for wrong reasons… remembering the dungeon man Josef Fritzl, the 73-year-old Austrian who imprisoned and raped his daughter for nearly a quarter century. But my Salzburg experience has repainted those thoughts with some fresh beautiful memories… Thanks you Salzburg for the memories…I will remember you as the home to the happy people…the mountain people!!! See you soon!!!
